BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEETING MINUTES

Thursday, September 16, 2008

Call to order - The meeting was called to order by Joyce Ramay, president, at 4 p.m.  Present in addition to Joyce were: Evelyn Evans, vice-chairperson, Midge Magstadt, secretary, governors: Robert Bennett, David Morgan, Robert Nuding, Carol Elrod via phone, past chairperson, Lou Pizzini, Wayne Robinson, minister, Pat Nuding, membership chairman, and Dale Weber for the SOC committee

Secretary’s report – The minutes of the August meeting were approved.

Financial  reports – (See handouts)

Treasurer’s report – Joyce reported on behalf of Doug Cartwright, that this past month we received a $10,000 donation from the Wilsons.  Due to that generous gift we did not have to transfer any funds this month to cover expenses and were able to show a net gain of $5,278.  August income was $19,648 and August expenses were $14,370.

.As of September 16, 2008 our accounts were as follows:

  • Checking – Florida Gulf Bank:  $5,863.11

  • Florida Gulf Money Market:  $7,582.97

  • Raymond James Legacy Fund:  $2,357.25

  • Raymond James Operating Reserve:  $22,690.89

  • Total Bank Accounts:  $38,494.22

Finance Committee – Since Hippolito has moved away, it was recommended that David Martinez take his place.  David’s father Luis had already been working with Hippolito.  David speaks English well, and was extremely helpful this past week.  The Finance Committee suggested David and Luis each be paid $60 per Sunday effective October 1, 2008.  When David’s probationary period ends and he becomes full sexton, he would receive up to $75 a week.  Evelyn Evans moved to approve this proposed pay scale and Robert Bennett made the second.  It was carried.  It was also reported that All Faiths collected 1,000 pounds of food for the Harry Chapin Food Bank as well as donating $1,009.

Minister’s Report – (See handouts) All Faiths celebrated 7 years of existence and as we look to the 8th, Wayne is anxious to see the implementation of the streaming audio system with an eventual move to video as well.  This will enable people who are unable to be present at services to still feel connected and even interact via the website.  The trial run of the audio this past week went smoothly.  Wayne plans to shift his schedule a bit, doing his sermon writing time on Friday rather than Saturday.  Much gratitude was expressed to Steve and Chris Fisher for the wonderful dinner they provided this past Sunday, as well as to the Cartwrights for their continued service in so many capacities.

The new format for Sunday services is still being “tweaked”.  For now, Joys and Concerns will go back to being done after the Offertory.  Also at this time, the children will go to classes immediately, rather than being in the service for a children’s message.

Committee Reports –

SSC – In Doug’s absence, Joyce reported that the dinner on September 14 raised $360.  The computer the Guardianos donated was auctioned three times, having been given back to be re-auctioned twice for a total of $180.

Social Circles – Carol’s committee had met and there will be a number of plays and dinners in the near future which will provide opportunities for the members to meet together and socialize.

Social Outreach – (see handouts) Robert had asked Dale Weber to read the Social Outreach Committee report, which he did.  There was much to report, from a “Mysterious Discover Raffle” to support ASAP on October 12, to continuing to seek mentors for girls in the Footsteps to the Future program.  It was suggested we try to support a “project of the month” and perhaps have a basket for donations at that time.  We want to be sure we are supporting the approved outreach programs that All Faiths has selected.  As Christmas nears there will be a need to raise money for at least a $25 gift card for the children at Hope House.  McGregor Clinic has an ongoing need to fill their food pantry and we may do a food drive for them periodically as well as giving financial donations.  Jean Selden is conducting Conflict Resolution Training, and it was hoped that perhaps she could train All Faiths members who were interested at some time in the future.  The SOC is doing a great job of providing so many fine opportunities for All Faiths members and participants to be involved in helping others.

Religious Education – Alison Savage has temporarily been hired to help with the younger children during services.  She will be paid $75 a Sunday.  This will be a trial to see if the number of children merits having two workers, but it is felt that it is important to meet the needs of the various age groups of children who might be in attendance.

Long Range Planning – It was felt that due to the economy, at this time we will postpone further discussion regarding financial feasibility of a home of our own.

Membership– Pat Nuding reported that Greg and Kristen Stuart and Dr. Omar Rieche have become new members, and the Board accepted their membership.  Our membership is now 209 Members and 8 Dual Members and 86 Friends.  Wayne noted the drop in membership over the past months and requested that the Board be notified about members who have requested to be dropped in order that they might be contacted to at least endeavor to let them know they are cared about and we would be very sorry to have them leave.  Pat will work with Sarah to see about bringing the names of those people to the Board’s attention.  Pat is also now on the Service Support Committee to provide better communication between those two groups.

Newsletter- Peggy JSingh is out of the country dealing with family matters and has requested that articles for the “Connections” be submitted as soon as possible to help Sarah and Jan Guardiano, who will be putting the newsletter together in her absence.  Peggy did a lot of work prior to leaving, and we all appreciate her hard work on the newsletter.

Workshops – Dale Weber has consented to lead the BYOT – Ethics Workshop again starting October 12 at 9:00 A.M. prior to services.  He has left it open- ended as to when the stop time will be, as last time, no one wanted to stop!  That speaks volumes of Dale’s leadership!

There was no Old Business or New Business.

Next Meeting - Our next meeting will be held Tuesday, October 21, at 4 p.m. in the Edwards Building.  The meeting was adjourned at 5:20 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Midge Magstadt, Secretary
